Southeastern Regional Meeting – Jan 31, 2009
Jim Doan, Doane Family V.P. for the Southeastern region, is holding the first meeting for the region at the college where he teaches, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Davie/Ft. Lauderdale, FL, on Saturday, January 31. He plans a full day at the main university library, with talks and demonstrations by himself and his colleagues on genealogical research databases, genetics, the relationship between genetic and genealogical study and particularly the ongoing Doane Family y-DNA research project. All Doane Family Association members are invited to attend. For further information, including a list of area hotels, directions to the university and a complete schedule of events, contact him at: doan@nova.edu or 954-262-8207.
The university is located off I-595 about eight miles from the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport: http://www.nova.edu/cwis/campusmaps/maincampus.html .Since February is the height of the tourist season in South Florida, with temperatures in the 80s, be sure to book hotel rooms early.
The following is a link to area hotels: http://hotel-guides.us/florida/plantation-fl-hotels.html .
Comfort Suites (2540 Davie Rd.) will offer us a rate of $189.00 a night plus tax (for a double) as long as ten rooms are booked by October 31, 2008 (this is actually a pretty competitive rate for the area). The hotel, located near NSU, has a free shuttle service from the airport and will also provide a free shuttle to the university on the morning of the meeting (car rides can be provided for the afternoon return, if necessary). If you are interested in booking a room, call the Sales Office at 954-585-7071 or 866-882-6368 (toll free) and give them the following code: “Doan Group.”
Jim would like to keep track of expected numbers for the meeting, so please contact him if you plan to attend as soon as possible.
