The Ontario DFA Chapter invites you to join them in Canada for the Doan(e) Family Association's 50th anniversary biennial celebration reunion to be held July 21-26 in scenic Barrie, Ontario. This is a special milestone in the history of the DFA,and several activities are planned to celebrate the Association's longevity. During the week, participants will learn about the Doan(e)s who settled in Canada, and about DFA reunions over the past 100 years. Family members will also be treated to area tours, Canadian lore, interesting historical papers, a memorial service, great food and fellowship, children's activities, entertainment (including the traditional DFA talent show), social and research time, plus there will be a supply of "Doane" items from the Doane College bookstore (Crete, Nebraska) available, and historian Kay Blair will be set up in a special seminar room to assist with genealogical research.
The DFA will headquarter at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Barrie, a city located about 40 miles north of Toronto. Barrie, situated on beautiful Lake Simcoe, is a popular destination for water sport enthusiasts. The conference center offers several meeting rooms and nice accommodations. Barrie's location is also a good hub for the tours on the reunion agenda. Branches of the Doan( e) family came to Canada in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and visits to several important family sites are on the agenda.
This 2008 reunion is hosted by the Ontario Chapter DFA, under the leadership of Cora Brodie of Markham. If you have questions, please call Cora at (905) 471-9060, or fax a message to her at (905) 471-2232, or you may email Janet Jeffries at Doane College
United States citizens, don't forget that you need a passport to enter Canada by air. Be sure your passports are up-to-date. At this writing it is still questionable if you will need a passport to drive into the country. Please try to keep track of this situation so that you will have the correct documents with you at the border crossing.
