The tassel and horn is not a coat of arms. It was the badge for the office of Huntsman that Sir John held and passed on to his descendants.  It is currently used by a woman in England who holds the office.  (see page x in Volume I of the Doane Family)  The DFA continued to use it (since it was not a coat of arms) until we learned we are not of this line at all.  See page 1 (one) in Volume II at the bottom of #540.  We have since done extensive DNA testing and learned there are six families of Dones in England and we are not of any of them.  We show a northern European/Nordic influence.  Since we are not of the family and also not British, we have no right to use a coat of arms in any case.  It was suggested several years ago we hold a contest to come up with a new logo. If you have suggestions for the logo, please contact the  webmaster  .

Did you know we were in the booze business?   Well with some help from friends, relatives, and EBay.  I have collected a few items.  Qty 3 bottles and a sales order form.

The bottles were located in the Northeast

The sales info was found on EBay , in Vermont .   I spoke to the person who found the envelope inside the kitchen wall during renovations.  The letter is dated Feb.1,1914 with a self addressed envelope,  with 2 cent postage. It is hard to believe, for 50 cents - a quart of whiskey.  Hope you enjoy this,
