THE DOAN(E) FAMILY ASSOCIATION

IS COMING TO CANADA!

For a special

50TH ANNIVERSARY BIENNIAL REUNION

 Barrie, Ontario

July 21- 26, 2008

Mark your calendars for the 2008 Doan(e) Family Association's (DFA) 50th anniversary celebration reunion to be held next July in scenic Barrie, Ontario. This event marks a special milestone in the history of the DFA, and you won't want to miss it! The reunion will be a great time to get acquainted or reacquainted with distant "cousins" from all over the United States, Great Britain, and Canada.

Reunion Chair, and DFA Vice President, Cora Brodie, has been working tirelessly with her committee to plan an informative, entertaining, and fun-filled week of activities. Headquarters will be the Holiday Inn and Conference Center in Barrie located on beautiful Lake Simcoe. This conference center offers several meeting rooms and nice accommodations. Barrie is also a good hub for the tours on the reunion agenda. Formal registration will begin in early 2008.

Activities planned include:

. A special 50th anniversary celebration event.

. Several historical presentations about branches of the Doan(e) family.

. Genealogical research time with DFA Historian Katherine Blair.

. Learn the history of the various DF A chapters in the United States and Canada.

. Bus tours to area Doan(e) family ancestral sites.

. Bus tours to popular attractions that showcase the unique history of Ontario.

  • Doan(e) Homestead Sites
  • 30,000 Island Cruise - Georgian Bay
  • Santa's Village Entertainment Park
  • Sainte Marie among the Hurons/Martyrs living history site
  • Saint Jacobs Amish / Mennonite area

. DFA talent night.

This activity has become a staple during the DFA reunions. Those with talent to share are urged to work up an act for this fun, casual evening. If you play an easily transportable musical instrument, bring it along. One also never knows when sing-a-long activities and impromptu "jamming" may occur!

. A memorial service to remember those family members who have gone on before us.

. Special children's activities.

. Doane memorabilia and shirts from Doane College, Crete, NE, USA will be available.

Watch for more reunion information in future DFA publications.
